Sediakan bahan kisar: Bawang besar dan putih digoreng terlebih dahulu sehingga layu sedikit. (Sekejap sahaja jgn lama). Cili kering direbus sehingga mendidih. (Buangkan biji cili untuk kurangkan rasa pedas). Kemudian, kisar semua bahan bersama sedikit belacan. (Taknak masukkan belacan pun takpa)
Seterusnya, panaskan kuali dan masukkan bahan kisar. Tumis sehingga naik bau, garing dan pecah minyak.
Masukkan petai yang telah dicuci terlebih dahulu. Kemudian, masukkan air asam jawa (kurangkan kalau taknak rasa terlebih masam). Tunggu sehingga petai masak. Akhir sekali, masukkan garam dan gula secukup rasa. Sambal petai is doneeee 😜
